Legal Framework

This policy aligns with:

Definition of a Vulnerable Adult

An adult who:

Needs care and support (whether or not the local authority is meeting those needs);

  • Is experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or neglect;

  • Is unable to protect themselves due to their care needs.

Types of Abuse

Including but not limited to:

  • Physical,

  • Emotional,

  • Financial,

  • Sexual,

  • Neglect,

  • Domestic,

  • Discriminatory,

  • Organisational abuse,

  • Self-neglect.

Prevention and Training

  • All staff undergo safeguarding awareness training.

  • Clear procedures exist for handling disclosures or concerns.

  • Participants will be treated with respect and dignity at all times.

Confidentiality, Support and Empowerment

  • All records will be kept securely.

  • Sensitive information is shared on a strictly need-to-know basis.

  • We prioritise the autonomy and preferences of adults at risk.

  • Adults will be included in decisions unless they lack mental capacity, in which case we act in their best interests.

Allegations Against Staff

  • Allegations will be investigated following statutory guidance.

  • The DSL will liaise with the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).

  • Alternatively, safeguarding concerns can be made directly to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
